Our Journey
DISTRICT 49 CHILD AND YOUTH CARE CENTRE
The District 49 Child and Youth Care Centre was originally established in July 1997 by a group of concerned community members with a view to providing a 'Safe House' for children who are abused, neglected, abandoned and orphaned.
The Home is situated in Umkomaas and currently houses a maximum of 30 children ranging from 4 years old up to 18 years old. The children concerned are all admitted into the Home via the Children's Court as children in need of care and protection.
Our Humble Beginnings
District 49 was officially opened on 15/09/1997 as a 'Safe House' for vulnerable children, founded by concerned community members.
Official Registration
Registered as a Child & Youth Care Centre by the Department of Social Development on 13th March 2009, formalizing our operations.
Comprehensive Care Model
Today we provide holistic care including therapeutic services, educational support, and developmental programs for 30 children with 12 dedicated staff members.
Our Future Plans for our 4th Decade & beyond
In 2027 we celebrate our 30th Anniversary. As we enter our 4th decade, we have great improvement plans for the Home and the lives of our children, with your continued help and support.
